Flat, 2019
scanned prints from installation
dimensions 8 1/2” x 11” (each)

Informed by Walter Benjamin’s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (1936), Flat seeks to subvert data visualization through the recursive process of ‘copy’. Using an (all-in-one) printer, the work manufactures and presents images compressed and complicated through the process of replication. With each iteration of scanning and reprinting, the image’s origin becomes muddied, stripping away the ‘aura’ of the original, and laminating malignancies onto the surface of the new image.
